Wind Turbine Tech Colleges

Several colleges offer degree programs in wind turbine technology.

With the emergence of wind turbine technology over the last decade or so, many colleges have begun developing and offering degree programs in wind turbine technology. Community colleges have been particularly quick to establish certificate or associate degree programs which prepare prospective students to become wind turbine technicians who can find entry-level employment in the field. Highland Community College in Illinois, Kalamazoo Valley Community College in Michigan and Iowa Lakes Community College in Iowa each offer a wind turbine technology program that will help students obtain necessary education and training.

Iowa Lakes Community College

At Iowa Lakes Community College, prospective students can study toward the Associate Degree in Applied Science at the Estherville campus. The college operates what is considered to the first and only two-year degree program of its kind. The program emphasizes hands-on and practical experience combined with classroom instruction. Students who wish to complete the two-year program will earn 80 credits.

The program also runs a diploma program that consists of three terms and 48 credits that will prepare students for an entry-level position in the field. Both programs are intended to shape students into technicians who will be able to install, maintain and provide service for wind turbines. Students will complete courses such as Construction, Maintenance, Operations, High-Tech Low-Voltage, Computerized Control and Monitoring Systems, Data Acquisition and Management, among other topics.
