Garage door opener dead

Garage Door Opener Dead

My garage door opener opened the door this morning, but stopped working, and would not close the door. No sound or movement from the motor. I know it is getting the remote signal because the light will come on when you click the remote and you hear a click. I also tried the wall button with the same results. It is plugged in and has power. It is an Omega Matic II with a Pulsar remote system. Do these just die like that? Is it time to go to Home Depot??? Thanks for any help you can provide. - Tom in Florida What make is the unit? On the back of the unit, Do you see a light blinking? Count the blinks. Up to 6 then repeats. Thanks for the response Pumpkin. It is an Omega Matic II with a Pulsar remote. It was made in 1990 - it does not have any exterior lights. One guy said it was the controller board inside with the motor. He said because the unit is old, they do not make parts for it - because the units now must have safety features in them that my unit does not have - like infra-red senosor , etc. He said it is the law. He want to install a new unit for $319 - ouch! 319$ is a lil costly. you should be able to get a furnish and install opener for 280$ another thing to think about is lowes or home depot. they offer installs on their openers. the only draw back to those are you have to purchase any angle needed to install the units which the the salespeople never tell you about. good luck It's probably a good idea to replace it with a new one with all the saftey features. Watch where you buy it. Places like Home Depot extra you to death. Extra for 10 ft hieght ceiling Extra for distance away from store etc. etc. There are advantages dealing with a garage door dealer rather than a big box store, the unit is a better quality, one peice rail rather than a bolt together rail. It may cost a little more but the service and warranties will be better. A good www I found that shows the benefits is www.doorsys.com there is a good reason as to why you have to pay extra for high ceilings, the sub has to use his angle to install the opener. the customer bought an opener and the labor to install the opener, not the extra material to install the opener. It's a liabity thing remember it's not the fall....It's the sudden stop at the bottom
