Clean A Sink Drain With Vinegar & Baking Soda

Clean your sink drain naturally with vinegar and baking soda.

Sink drains often get dirtied by the sediments and particles that wash down them every day. These sediments can build up and cause a clog or slow the sink from draining. Although numerous products on the market exist that purport to remove these clogs and keep your drain clean, these items contain toxic ingredients that you may not want to keep around your house or put in your pipes. Baking soda and vinegar make a natural alternative to commercial cleansers. Not only are they safer, but they are more commonly found around the house, saving you a trip to the store.

Instructions

1. Fill a large pot with water.

2. Set the pot on the stove and turn on high to boil it.

3. Place the funnel over the sink. If you do not have a funnel, roll a piece of paper, pointing the small end into the drain.

4. Fill your measuring cup with baking soda. For a large kitchen sink, use a full cup or half cup. A smaller sink generally calls for a quarter cup.

5. Pour the baking soda through the funnel into the drain.

6. Fill the measuring cup with vinegar and pour through the funnel into the drain. Let the foaming concoction work for 10 to 20 minutes.

7. Pour the boiling water into the drain.

Tips Warnings

If your sink is clogged, first fill the sink with water and either plunge or snake any clogs out of the drain.
