Change Coolant In A Nissan Murano

The coolant within the radiator is responsible both for reducing the operating temperature of the engine as well as lowering the freezing temperature of the fluid within the engine. Over time, the chemical composition of antifreeze breaks down, thereby reducing its effectiveness. Nissan therefore recommends that the Murano's coolant should be changed after the first 60,000 miles or four years, and thereafter replaced every 30,000 miles or two years.

Instructions

1. Remove the radiator cap, then drain the radiator by turning the radiator's plastic drain plug in a counterclockwise direction with a wrench. The radiator's drain plug is located on the bottom of the radiator on the driver's side.

2. Open the air relief valve with a wrench. The air relief valve is located on top of the intake manifold where the upper radiator hose meets the engine.

3. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.

4. Place a garden hose into the radiator and turn the water to the hose on. The water will then circulate throughout the engine. Turn the garden hose off once the water which pours from the bottom of the radiator turns clear.

5. Allow the engine to cool.

6. Reinstall the radiator's drain plug into the bottom of the radiator.

7. Fill the radiator with coolant by pouring the coolant into the opening on the top of the radiator where the radiator cap rests, then install the radiator cap.

8. Close the air relief valve with a wrench.

9. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature, then turn the engine off and allow it to cool.

10. Remove the radiator cap and add additional coolant if necessary.
