Signs Of A Spouse'S Drinking Problem

It is important to you and your spouse to know if either of you are displaying the signs or symptoms of a drinking problem. One of the most fulfilling and gratifying relationships you can have in life is a strong and happy relationship with your spouse. If the signs of alcoholism are creeping up in your spouse you need to know what steps to take before it destroys your relationship.

Increased Tolerance

An increased tolerance to alcohol is one of the initial indicators of a drinking problem. Over time, as a person's alcohol consumption grows, so does their physical tolerance for alcohol;therefore, it takes more drinks for the person to feel the effects alcohol. If you suspect that your wife has a drinking problem ask her whether she needs more drinks in order to get a buzz or to feel the effects of alcohol.

Unusual Drinking Habits

Another sign that your husband may have a drinking problem is that he has developed unusual drinking habits. These are habits that surround his consumption of alcohol and are related to when or how much he drinks. Is your spouse drinking by himself? Do you find bottles or glasses that make you believe that your husband is hiding his drinking? Can he stop drinking at one drink? or does he need to have more than one? Does your husband keep alcohol in strange places, like behind a toilet, in the car or in a closet? Has your husband developed a time every day in which he must drink? Does your husband drink to the point where he can't remember drinking or has black outs?

Uncommon Behavior

Perhaps the most visible sign that your wife has developed a drinking problem is that she has acquired some uncommon or generally unacceptable behavior in her personal life. Some of these behaviors may stem from symptoms of alcoholism, such as nausea from either too much drinking or withdrawal from drinking. In some cases a person with a drinking problem may become very irritable for no apparent reason, but it may actually be a sign of alcohol withdrawal. Other behaviors indicative of withdrawal are excessive sweating and shaking, anxiety, depression, insomnia, headaches or fatigue. Further, drinking problems may result in your wife lying to you, having legal problems or problems at work. Drinking problems may also lead to your wife ignoring your children or discontinuing participation in activities that she used to enjoy.
