Straighten Bent Aluminum

Aluminum is commonly used in a wide variety of construction materials.

When working with aluminum materials, it is common to have to bend them due to their malleable properties. While it is tempting to discard a bent aluminum item, in most cases you can straighten it out and still use it, saving you the costs of having to buy another one and the time spent replacing it. The best part is that you can straighten the aluminum yourself with the right tools and directions, leaving you with a straight and usable piece of aluminum.

Instructions

1. Put on the construction gloves to protect your hands from the sharp edges of the aluminum.

2. Bend the aluminum object as straight as you can with your hands. Depending on the thickness of the aluminum, you might not be able to bend it at all.

3. Lay the aluminum object on a solid surface, like a concrete floor. Apply heat with the heat gun to the bend on the aluminum at the spot you want to straighten out.

4. Bend the aluminum object with your hands as it begins to heat up. Keep adding heat and bending it until you straighten it out completely.

5. Hit the heated aluminum with the rubber mallet to remove any bumps. You can now reuse the aluminum; if your aluminum object is too thick, it might be impossible to straighten it.
