Troubleshoot Moen Pullout Kitchen Sink Faucets

Faucets need troubleshooting every once in awhile.

The Moen pull-out kitchen sink faucet is a high quality, convenient appliance. The pull-out feature allows cleaning of pots and hard to reach areas inside of large pans. It adds versatility and functionality to your kitchen. However, the faucet is not without its problems. One common problem is the fact that the handle slips down when it is supposed to stay in the on position. When that happens, it is time to do some troubleshooting.

Instructions

1. Lower the faucet handle to the off position. Check the Allen nut under the faucet handle. Insert an Allen wrench into the screw, if it is still in place. Turn the wrench to the right to fully tighten the handle screw. Lift the handle. Wait to see if the handle drops back down again. If it does, there is an issue with your handle.

2. Remove the faucet handle by loosening the Allen nut with an Allen wrench. This time turn the wrench to the left and remove the screw. Pull the handle off. Scrub the sides of the handle stem with a scrub pad to remove silicone remaining on this part. This stem protrudes out from the faucet ball cap under the handle. It is the part the handle slides onto.

3. Replace the faucet handle by sliding it back over the stem. Tighten the Allen nut with the Allen wrench until it is securely tight. Then lift the handle and wait several seconds. This should fix the sliding handle issue. If the handle is too tight, the cartridge may need silicone grease.

4. Remove the cartridge inside the faucet itself by taking off the handle and ball cap. Loosen the screws with a screwdriver and remove the cartridge. Apply silicone grease to the cartridge inside and outside. Then replace it, fully tighten the screws, reconnect the ball cap and re-install the handle.

5. Remove the faucet cartridge and replace it with a new cartridge. Tighten the screws and then try the faucet again. This fix will repair leaks and low water flow issues. Only replace the cartridge with a matching Moen cartridge. Otherwise, the faucet will not work properly.
